Holland Casino employees strike during Easter

A conflict between the direction and employees of Holland Casino might lead to a strike during Easter. They don´t agree about the forthcoming privatization of the casino. Recent collective bargaining between the two parties wasn´t a success either.
A visit to Holland Casino might not be possible during Easter, because it seems very likely that the employees go on strike this weekend. For over a year the collective bargaining between the council and Holland Casino has been very difficult. Even the help from chairman Wim Kooijmann, previous HR-director of KLM, has been unsuccessfully.
Last Friday the Works Council announced that it would appeal in cassation against the decision that Holland Casino will have a new company form later this year. Privatization is going to take place, which means that Holland Casino no longer will be in the hands of the Dutch government. The branches will be sold in several blocks. It also means that casino’s from abroad also get permission to open branches in the Netherlands.
The Works Council fiercely opposes privatization, just like the Council. In fact all the conflicts between direction and the Holland Employees are coming from these internal struggles.
