Fortunately, a new law has changed this.
Ban on gambling
Recently Gambia got a new president called Adama Barrow. With a presidential decree he lifted the ban on gambling immediately. Good news for the many tourists visiting the West-African country. Casinos had been illegal in Gambia since 2015. Back then, president Yahya Abdul-Aziz Jemus Junkung Jammeh decided that gambling was should be illegal. He called it ‘exploitive’ and dangerous because of gambling addictions.
The smiling coast of Africa
The former president wanted to ‘promote the public welfare of the citizens’. Because of the law, people could no longer take a gamble during a sports game or play Blackjack, Roulette or Poker. Gambling and sports centers were build all over the country for the thousands of tourists. Gambia is also known as ‘the smiling coast of Africa’. We can definitely smile, now that gambling is legal again!
